Amazon Treasure Truck comes to the UK

Amazon has revealed that its Treasure Truck shopping experience, first launched in the retailer’s hometown of Seattle in February 2016, will come to London and Manchester with more cities to follow at a later date.

The truck will arrive in the two cities featuring one carefully selected goody at a time. Registered customers will receive a text alert spilling the beans on that day’s treasure before the vehicle rolls into town.

Amazon said that customers can “expect the unexpected”, as offers will include exclusive items made for Treasure Truck, trending tech gadgets, seasonal must-haves, food items, favourites from local businesses, “amazing” deals on limited edition items and much more.

After customers purchase the product in the Amazon app, they then select a convenient time and place to pick up the item at the truck, where they will be greeted by a ‘delight squad’ – the truck’s specially trained crew.

“We all remember the sense of excitement we felt as children when we heard the jingle of the ice-cream van, and we hope to bring that same feeling with Treasure Truck,” said James Quick, Head of Treasure Truck, Amazon.co.uk.

“Every product has been cherry-picked, from must-have Christmas presents to jaw-dropping offers, ensuring Treasure Truck will turn an ordinary day into something a bit more special.”

David Jinks st MILT, Head of Consumer Research at e-commerce delivery specialist ParcelHero, said: “The treasure trucks have been worth their weight in gold in publicity value for Amazon in the US. American shoppers seek out the trucks as eagerly as Long John Silver ever hunted treasure.

“It didn’t need the ghost of Captain Flint to predict that if Amazon didn’t introduce them to the UK soon, a major buccaneering British retailer may well have stolen the idea.”

Following its Seattle launch in 2016, Treasure Truck has expanded to a further 24 US cities including Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles and New York.
