John Lewis reported seasonal shopping in full swing for the week ended 19th December – the final full week of trade before Christmas – with sales of £171.8m, up 7.0% on last year and 10.7% week on week, and johnlewis.com posting a rise of 30.3%.
Electricals & Home Technology had a particularly strong week, up 16.2% driven by an increase in gifting items.
Amongst the bestsellers were Gaming and Consoles, up 180%, Connected Home, up 113.6%, Tablets and Computers gained 19.6% and Food Prep sales increased by 56.0%, driven by demand for juicers and mixers.
The retailer said Apple Watch and Mobile were also popular gifts.
To support last-minute shoppers, John Lewis has extended its Click & Collect deadline to 8pm on Wednesday 23rd so customers can pick up orders in stores from 2pm on Christmas Eve.
Managing Director Andy Street commented: “Customers clearly want to keep shopping right through to Christmas Eve, and with the final few shopping days left we are expecting our shops to be incredibly busy as people are off work.
“With the extension of our Click & Collect service, John Lewis is making it easier than ever for customers to finish their Christmas shopping.”
