LG and Bang & Olufsen unveil BeoVision Eclipse TV at IFA 2017

LG Electronics (LG) and Bang & Olufsen unveiled the result of their first collaborative effort in home entertainment with the introduction of the BeoVision Eclipse TV at IFA Berlin.

The collaboration between two companies on the BeoVision Eclipse TV commenced in 2016 and has produced the first OLED TV to carry the Bang & Olufsen name. The unit is billed as a TV with “unsurpassed picture quality, audio, design and craftsmanship.”

“Consumers all over the world will immediately recognise LG’s unrivalled OLED and video processing technology inside this beautiful television crafted by Bang & Olufsen, a company with a strong heritage in design and sound,” said Lee Sang-woo, vice president of business strategy at the LG Electronics Home Entertainment Company. “We are looking forward to further developing this relationship going forward.”

BeoVision Eclipse functions as a flexible A/V centre. The TV incorporates 4K video processing technology and comes with LG’s most recent webOS 3.5 platform. The platform lets users access and customise their favourite content, apps and devices, music streaming services such as Spotify, content providers such as Netflix, Amazon and YouTube, Blu-ray players of any brand, and personal content.

The audio streaming element includes TuneIn radio, Spotify Connect, Deezer, Chromecast built-in for audio, audio AirPlay and Bluetooth streaming. The idea is that, by bringing it all together in one place, BeoVision Eclipse dramatically reduces the complexity of users’ digital lives.

Everything is controlled with a single remote, the BeoRemote One BT, and allows for a great degree of personalisation.

The collaboration with LG Electronics marks the beginning of Bang & Olufsen’s strategy to expand its technological capabilities and scale through partnerships, allowing the company to focus on core capabilities within acoustics, design and craftsmanship, while optimising its supply chain, development, production and service to improve the long-term profitability of the business.

“Bang & Olufsen and LG both share a long tradition of innovation and craftsmanship,” said Stefan K. Persson, executive vice president at Bang & Olufsen.

“The strategic partnership between the two companies demonstrates the mutual desire to continuously push the boundaries when it comes to merging world-class design and cutting-edge technology. The result of this collaboration, the BeoVision Eclipse, is a true example of that.”
