LG releases 2017 home entertainment ranges
LG Electronics (LG) unveiled its newest home entertainment lineup for the European market at its annual InnoFest Europe event.
Highlights include the company’s multi-HDR-enabled TVs such as the 77-inch LG SIGNATURE OLED TV W – winner of multiple awards including the 2017 CES Best of Innovation Award.
The new lineup features Dolby Vision™ and Dolby Atmos™ sound and incorporates ten different models (77/65W7, 77/65G7, 65/55E7, 65/55C7 and 65/55B7). LG said it demonstrates the company’s leadership in the premium TV industry, with the Picture-on-Wall design of W series, the blade-slim design of the B7 and C7 series and the Picture-on-Glass design of the E7 and G7 series.
The design of the W7 series adheres to LG’s philosophy of “less is more”. LG OLED TVs are less than 4mm thick when measured from the wall, to which they can be mounted with magnetic brackets. The sense of immersion is completed through up-firing speakers which produce Dolby Atmos sound.
The units incorporate the latest version of LG’s intuitive webOS smart TV platform, so viewers will have no trouble accessing the latest premium HDR content online.
Advanced SUPER UHD TVs
The new SUPER UHD TV lineup for Europe includes 14 models, three of them showcased at Innofest Europe (SJ9500, SJ8500 and SJ8100). All feature Nano Cell technology to help to create “hyper-realistic” images, highly accurate colours and wider viewing angles. Like the 2017 OLED models, they also benefit from technology which helps to deliver the most vivid colour – a result of the company’s partnership with Technicolor.
Models offer the full spectrum of HDR formats including Dolby Vision, HDR10, HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma), and are capable of supporting Advanced HDR by Technicolor. They also incorporate LG’s webOS smart TV platform and powerful audio capabilities.
TV Sound Bars
LG’s new SJ9 soundbar incorporates Dolby Atmos® technology to create an immersive cinema audio experience. It is equipped with multiple speakers, including two up-firing, to surround the listener in high-quality audio from every angle.
The unit is equipped with High Resolution Audio, compatible with superior lossless audio files which capture the original sound recorded in the studio, and its Sound Upconverting feature increases the quality of standard audio files to 24bit/192Hz. It supports 4K pass through to deliver a perfectly synchronised audio and video experience.
The SJ8 soundbar is equipped with many of the same features as the SJ9, including High Resolution Audio, 4K pass through and the ability to stream content using built-in Chromecast compatibility. The unit has a slim 38mm profile and integrates seamlessly with LG’s new 2017 TV models using the TV Perfect Fit Kit, which replaces the original stand with the SJ8 soundbar stand.
The SJ7 soundbar (pictured) can be used as an independent Bluetooth speaker. Users can sync their smart devices to the unit and listen to their audio content anywhere in the home.
When the SJ7 is configured in Sound Bar Mode, the two halves connect wirelessly together and can be placed vertically, allowing users to enjoy high-quality audio performance via a wirelessly connected stereo speaker system.
For those who prefer a surround sound experience, it can be configured in Rear Speaker Mode to provide enhanced flexibility for tailoring the audio experience to specific visual content. The unit also features Adaptive Sound Control.
Portable Speakers that levitate
LG’s Levitating Portable Speaker (model PJ9) hovers in place over its accompanying Levitation Station to deliver high-quality audio and eye-catching design, and will play music, podcasts and other audio content inside and outside of the home.
At its core is a 360-degree omnidirectional speaker with a turbine blade-inspired design and deep bass emitted by the subwoofer inside the Levitation Station. Dual Passive Radiator technology reproduces flush mid-range tones and crisp highs for enhanced sound quality.
When the PJ9’s 10-hour battery begins to run low, the speaker automatically descends to the Levitation Station and wirelessly charges itself with no intervention required from the listener and no interruption in music playback. When fully charged, it levitates again. Multipoint technology enables the speaker to connect with two Bluetooth devices simultaneously.
The PJ7 – also included in the PJ portable speaker series – comes with the option to tune into FM and DAB radio stations.
Dolby Vision-capable 4K UHD Blu-ray player
LG’s UHD Blu-ray Player (model UP970) will support Dolby Vision™ HDR imaging via a firmware update coming mid 2017. The unit offers enhanced dual format HDR compatibility with support for the HDR10 format to give users access to as much HDR content as possible. It also works with a variety of leading sound formats, including Dolby True HD, Dolby Atmos and DTS-HD Master Audio.
It comes equipped with Ethernet and Wi-Fi functions to allow users to easily stream their favourite online content via Netflix and YouTube, and a USB port to provide movie, picture and music playback.
