Loewe introduces ‘klang 1’ satellite speakers

German manufacturer Loewe has introduced the ‘klang 1’ (klang meaning ‘sound’ in German), the first of a new generation of satellite speakers designed to work in a number of configurations.

The units have an understated cylindrical design, each covered with black acoustic material, with no visible screws, seams or fixings anywhere on the casing, and can be placed virtually anywhere in the room, with a choice of dedicated stand options – wall-mount, integrated table base or stainless steel floor stand.

The klang 1 utilises an enhanced three-inch full-range drive unit with a precisely designed waveguide for optimal sound dispersion throughout the room, and can be used in a full Loewe system, integrating seamlessly with Loewe TVs and active subwoofers, or with any amplifier. Gilded metal clamps for the speaker cables and hidden cable management that uses a magnetic cover to hide the connections from view result in a neat, compact and unobtrusive unit that blends into the living space.

The speaker delivers a well scaled, room-filling performance, particularly when matched with one of Loewe’s active subwoofers. The recently launched Subwoofer 300 is a perfect partner, according to the manufacturer – its compact aluminium casing packing in three 15cm bass drivers – one active unit driven by 150W of built-in amplification and two passive radiators – plus further onboard amp modules delivering 2x75W to drive a pair of stereo speakers.

When combined, the klang 1 speakers and Subwoofer 300 form a neat 2.1 speaker system complete with fully integrated power amplification.

The speaker also benefits from the subwoofer’s built-in signal processing, ensuring seamlessly integrated sound. Add a Loewe TV with onboard Dolby Digital/DTS decoding into the mix and Loewe’s fully integrated AV system concept really comes into its own. The TV acts as the centre speaker in a 3.1 configuration, with a pair of klang 1s for the left/right channels powered by the Subwoofer 300’s built-in amplification. A second pair of klang 1s and a second Subwoofer 300 will deliver a full 5.2 surround sound system, without the need for external processing or amplification.

When used with a Loewe TV, all sound parameters can be adjusted via the TV’s remote control. All components will also switch on and off together using a single remote command.
