Onkyo announces new multi-room range
Onkyo has announced the latest additions to its range of home entertainment products, each of which are designed to deliver Wireless Multi-room Audio Distribution from virtually any source, plus “outstanding AV performance in their own right.
All are equipped with FireConnect powered by Blackfire, a stable Wireless Multi-room system, adding to Onkyo’s existing 2016 FireConnect- equipped products already available on the market. A firmware update that will enable FireConnect functionality across the entire range is also being rolled out with immediate effect.
Each of the newly introduced products also features Chromecast built-in, DTS Play-Fi, Dual-band 5GHz/2.4GHz WiFi and Bluetooth wireless connectivity, for simple casting of music from the widest possible range of smartphones, tablets and PC applications.
Interconnectivity is managed by the Onkyo Controller App (available for iOS and Android), which scans for information about users’ network music libraries, streaming services and FireConnect-equipped devices. The information is collated and presented on an easy-to-navigate interface, complete with multi-room playback controls.
The range includes:
- AVRs: TX-NR57E (7.1-channel) and TX-NR474 (5.1-channel). Each model has full support on all inputs for HDMI 2.0a and HDCP 2.2 (for 4K TVs), has HDR-10 plus Dolby Vision ‘4K Pass Through’ Support, and features high-current amplifier stages, powerful enough to drive 4 ohm speaker loads (170w per channel for the TX-NR575E, 135w per channel for the TX-NR474). As well as support for all the common surround sound modes these AVRs also offer Dolby Atmos 3.1.2, the latest Dolby speaker configuration mode designed to deliver the advantages of Atmos from an easier to set-up (and accommodate) speaker package. Streaming audio bases Spotify, TIDAL, TuneIn, Deezer and the Amazon Music Service 4 are all supported, and there is an optional USB dongle that adds DAB+ capabilities, in addition to a built-in AM/FM tuner.
- Network Stereo Receiver: The TX-8270 with HDMI connectivity is an uprated version of the TX-8150, with the addition of new features. The receiver has four HDMI inputs and one output with Audio Return Channel (ARC) to enable the connection of media players, such as the Apple TV (a rear mounted 5v/500mA USB port supports HDMI dongles that require power). The 2 x 160w of power will drive large floorstanding speakers to high levels, with its high current/low impedance amplifier design. TIDAL, Spotify, Deezer, and TuneIn services are all built-in, as is a DAB+ tuner for terrestrial broadcasts. An onboard MM phono input caters for vinyl, and the FireConnect™ feature will allow users to stream all their music (including vinyl) to other FireConnect-equipped devices in the home.
- Wireless Audio System: The NCP-302 (pictured), available in Natural White or Black, is FireConnect enabled, and may be used as a standalone device (via the Onkyo Controller App) or part of a multi-room system. The system features twin 77mm woofers plus a single 26mm ‘balanced dome’ tweeter, and audio streaming options include Spotify, Deezer and TuneIn. The provision of a 3.5mm analogue input also caters for legacy sources.
