The 12 days of Christmas come early at Amazon
Amazon is preparing to get ahead of competitors with the launch of The Black Friday Sale on Amazon.co.uk. The event will run for 12 days, from Monday 14th November to Friday 25th November, with “great deals” on items including HDTVs, phones and audio products.
Black Friday has become a highly-anticipated date in the UK shopping calendar. Last year, Amazon.co.uk sold more than 7.4 million items on the day, at a rate of 86 items per second.
The retailer today said the 12 days will bring thousands of deals and millions of pounds worth of savings, with new deals becoming available as often as every five minutes, as customers get an early start on their Christmas shopping.
More than a thousand Amazon Marketplace sellers will also participate in The Black Friday Sale, offering double the number of deals compared to last year.
Thousands of ‘Lightning Deals’ will be introduced throughout the event – i.e. products available at a discount in limited quantities for a short period of time. Amazon Prime members, including those on the free Amazon Prime 30-day trial, have an exclusive 30-minute early access period to all Lightning Deals.
“In response to positive customer feedback for Black Friday deals, we are introducing The Black Friday Sale – 12 days of fantastic deals on must-have gifts and products, saving our customers millions of pounds,” said Doug Gurr, UK Country Manager, Amazon.
“We’re also thrilled to have over a thousand small businesses featuring in our Black Friday Sale, broadening the selection for our customers and enabling those businesses to boost their sales in the run up to Christmas.”
Amazon said the most popular Black Friday deals in 2015 included the 7” Fire Tablet, Fire TV Stick, Fire Kids Edition Tablet, Sony Playstation 4 and Xbox One console bundles, Le Creuset cookware, Paco Rabanne fragrances and Star Wars toys.
