Audio-Technica takes pro studio headphone wireless
Audio equipment manufacturer Audio-Technica, which over the past decade developed the M50 and its successor, M50x, as over-ear professional studio monitor headphones achieving sales of some 1.8 million units worldwide, has introduced a Bluetooth wireless version of this established headphone – the ATH-M50xBT.
The company says it has combined the audio performance of the M50xBT with wireless functionality including a 40 hour battery life, touch controls to activate a smartphone’s Google Assistant or Siri, a built-in mic and easy management via Audio-Technica’s Connect app for Android and iOS.
The new wireless unit features 45mm large-aperture drivers with rare-earth magnets and copper-clad aluminium wire voice coils, delivering quality sound over a low energy Bluetooth 5.0 wireless connection. Codecs supported for the wireless streaming of audio include aptX for CD-like quality and SBC and Advanced Audio Coding (AAC), to deliver a superior audio experience, compared to MP3 at similar bit rates.
The ATH-M50xBT’s over-the-ear design provides effective sound isolation for listening in noisy environments, and touch controls allow convenient handling of phone calls, music playback and volume adjustment. The free Audio-Technica Connect app allows easy audio management from a smartphone such as codec switching (aptX, AAC, SBC), battery status and headphone locator.
A collapsible design and 90-degree swivelling ear cups make the M50xBT easy to carry and store, with a supplied carry pouch adding extra protection during transit. When battery life is low a 1.2 m (3.9′) cable featuring a mic and controls is also included to provide a wired connection.
The Audio-Technica ATH-M50xBT is available now, priced at £179 (inc. VAT) from the company direct, Amazon and selected European online partners.
