Business as usual for Whirlpool after trailer fire

Whirlpool UK has said business would be operating as usual after a fire at its Peterborough site destroyed a number of trailers containing spare parts for washing machines and fridges.

Cambridge Fire & Rescue Service said it was called to the scene at 6.57pm on Thursday, where crews arrived to find a fire involving 52 trailer units.

Police and ambulance crews and 55 firefighters were in attendance.

Locals, who were advised by CFRS to keep doors and windows closed, reported hearing explosions as fire spread through the heavy goods trailers.

All crews had left the scene by 1am.

Whirlpool confirmed that no-one was injured in the incident and none of the buildings at the site had been affected.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
