Cambridge Audio’s new AX hi-fi separates series
Cambridge Audio has introduced an all-new range of hi-fi separates, the AX series, designed and engineered in the UK and aiming to deliver “the perfect balance between value and quality.”
The series consists of two CD players, two integrated amplifiers and two stereo receivers, developing design and innovation characteristics from the award-winning Cambridge Audio CX and Edge hi-fi ranges.
The CD player comes in two iterations: the AXC25 (RP£229), with a single analogue RCA output, remote control and Lunar Grey and black finish; and the step-up AX35 (RP£299) with the added option of a coaxial digital audio output. Both models are gapless playback CD players with the added ability to play home recorded CD-R, CD-RW and CD-ROM discs with MP3 and WMA files on them.
The integrated amplifier also offers two models: the AXA25 (RP£229) stereo amplifier with a power output of 25W, four analogue RCA inputs, a single RCA output for recording purposes and a USB port with 5V 500mA of power for adding a Bluetooth receiver, plus a 3.5mm auxiliary stereo input on the front panel; The AXA35 (RP £299) offers additional connectivity, has a greater power output of 35W and is supplied with a remote control and white display screen, a phono stage input and a 6.3mm headphone output. Both are finished in the AX range’s Lunar Grey and black colour scheme.
Completing the series are two stereo receivers: the AXR85, has a power output of 85W, is able to drive two stereo speaker zones, and has a wide range of connectivity including three analogue RCA inputs, a phono stage input, rec and subwoofer outputs and a 3.5mm auxiliary input and 6.3mm headphone output up front. It comes with an FM/AM tuner and built-in Bluetooth receiver for wireless streaming; the top-of-the-range AXR100 (RP£449) takes the AXR85’s template and adds digital inputs (two optical and one coaxial) while increasing the power output to 100W.
The AXC and AXA ranges will be available from Cambridge Audio from mid-June 2019. The AXR range will be available from July 2019.
