Cardiff wholesale distributor Maddocks celebrates Diamond Anniversary

December 2017 marks the 60th anniversary of the UK’s largest trade-only wholesale distributor of spare parts for domestic and commercial appliances.

HT Maddocks & Son Ltd, trading as Maddocks, is a family owned and run company in Cardiff selling spare parts, accessories and consumables for all household appliances such as washing machines, dishwashers, fridges, vacuum cleaners, kettles and shavers.

The company was founded in 1957 by the grandfather of current managing director Peter Maddocks, in a modest terraced house in Whitchurch, Cardiff, as a service company engaged in the repair of Hoover branded vacuum cleaners.

60 years on, and Maddocks has recently moved to one of the largest industrial lettings Cardiff has seen in recent years.

Through “hard-won distributorships” with the country’s most well-known brands such as Electrolux, Bosch and Indesit over 45 years ago, the company has enjoyed continual success and growth, even in the face of economic downturn. Company Director William Maddocks said: “Businesses faced uncertain times during the recession. However, it was positive news for our industry; with budgets squeezed people chose to repair their home appliances rather than replace them. This has been Maddocks’ philosophy since the beginning and I’m confident we’ll achieve fantastic results not only for the business but also the environment in the future.”

This year the company is expected to achieve a record £9.5 million turnover with a modest staff of just 34 permanent employees.
