CES 2020: Audio-Technica introduces new turntable and noise-cancelling earbuds
Audio-Technica, exhibiting at CES in Las Vegas, has introduced its “most advanced set of truly wireless earbuds,” the noise-cancelling ATH-ANC300TW, and its latest turntable, the premium AT-LPW50PB. Both products are available for demonstration at the brand’s exhibition booth (Convention Center, South Hall 1 Ground Level, Booth 20648).
The ATH-ANC300TW earbuds feature the company’s QUIETPOINT hybrid technology to eliminate ambient noise. Each earbud contains two microphones (one behind the driver and one inside the duct tube) which pick up environmental noise. A digital processor then reduces unwanted sound. The noise-cancelling effect can be customised to a current environment. The app also allows users to check battery life, control playback, select preferred codecs and assists in the location of the earbuds if they become separated or lost. Also featured are the latest Bluetooth® 5 wireless technology, making it compatible with the high-resolution aptX™ audio codec, multi-pairing functionality and SCMS-T supported devices that protect content transmitted over Bluetooth®. Qualcomm’s efficient TrueWireless™ Stereo Plus, enables the user to stream from a compatible mobile device directly to both earbuds simultaneously – a setup which reduces both latency and power consumption.
The earbuds will be available from May 2020, priced at £209.
The AT-LPW50PB premium turntable (pictured) is the latest in a line of Audio-Technica engineering, featuring a fully-manual belt-driven turntable uilt from 30mm thick anti-resonance MDF to isolate it from low-frequency acoustic feedback, and a sensor-monitored motor to ensure the accuracy of its platter rotation speed at either 33 1/3 or 45 RPM. The platter itself is cast from professional-grade anti-resonant aluminium. The turntable comes with a built-in selectable phono preamp and detachable dual RCA output cable for direct connection to other hi-fi components. The included AC adapter handles AC/DC conversion outside of the turntable chassis to minimise interference in the signal chain. The matte-finished carbon fibre tonearm offers adjustable tracking force and an AT-HS4 ½”-mount universal headshell that features a black AT-VM95E Dual Moving Magnet phono cartridge. This cartridge, a successor to the AT95E, is instantly switchable with any VM95 series cartridge to upgrade the sound. Supplied with the turntable are a male-to-male dual RCA cable, 45 RPM adapter, rubber mat and removable hinged dust cover, as well as height-adjustable high isolation feet.
The turntable is available from January 2020, priced at £379.00.
