Denon brings affordability to high performance audio with new 800NE range

Home entertainment manufacturer Denon is, says the company, “setting new standards for affordable audio components” with its all-new 800NE series, comprising the PMA-800NE amplifier, DNP-800NE network player and DCD-800NE CD player. The seriesd, says Denon, draws on technology from its flagship products.

The PMA-800NE amplifier benefits from the development work behind Denon’s high-end PMA-2500NE. With 85W per channel output (into 4ohms) via Denon’s Advanced High Current (AHC) single push-pull circuit power amplifier, it provides exceptional sound quality, balancing high power for striking dynamics with delicate, musical detail.

It has both analogue and digital inputs including a built-in moving coil/moving magnet phono equaliser for vinyl playback. High-resolution audio is catered for with an array of four digital inputs – three optical and one coaxial – and the onboard digital-to-analogue conversion is compatible with files at up to 192kHz/24bit. The digital section can be switched off to minimize interference when listening to analogue sources, while the control microprocessor powers off when not in use.

The DNP-800NE network audio player can play files stored on a home network, and stream content from services such as Spotify, Amazon Music, Napster, SoundCloud, Deezer, Tidal, TuneIn Internet radio and more. Music can also be enjoyed wirelessly from aportable devices via Bluetooth or AirPlay 2.

Using Advanced AL32 Processing Plus and a high-precision 192kHz/32-bit Burr Brown PCM1795 converter, the DNP-800NE can play a wide range of audio files. As well as lossy formats like MP3, WMA and AAC, it plays lossless ALAC, WAV and FLAC HD (up to 24-bit, 192 kHz) and DSD 2.8/5.6MHz, with gapless playback of DSD, WAV, FLAC and ALAC files from network streaming and USB.

HEOS integration allows the DNP-800NE to combine with other HEOS-capable devices, including wireless speakers and many components from Denon, to create multiroom music systems to share music around the home. It’s all controlled by the free HEOS app on a smartphone or tablet, or with an Alexa voice-control device, to choose where the music plays, to adjust volume and to skip tracks. The DNP-800NE also offers a choice of fixed or variable analogue outputs, allowing volume control from the HEOS app when it’s connected to a power amp or active speakers.

The DCD-800NE CD player is designed to make the most of both CD and high-res audio, employing the Denon Advanced AL32 Processing Plus used in the DNP-800NE. A USB input allows the connection of storage devices, from which music can be played at up to high resolution 192kHz/24bit and DSD 2.8/5.6MHz.

Like all the 800NE series components, the player uses vibration-resistant construction, and has carefully chosen components throughout the signal path, along with close attention to power supply design and a Pure Direct mode – all in the cause of the purest possible sound.

The PMA-800NE (£449), DNP-800NE (£449) and DCD-800NE (£349) are available in September 2018 through authorized DENON retailers.
