ESSE’s new hybrid range provides a taste of the great outdoors

ESSE’s new 990 Hybrid is a wood-burning cook stove and electric range cooker in one unit, which offers the choice and versatility of cooking with solid fuel or electricity and brings the evocative smell of woodsmoke into the kitchen.

Behind the lower door is a deep oven which derives its heat from the firebox for rustic wood-fired roasting and baking. The firebox also powers the large circular hotplate above, which can reach temperatures of up to 400°C and accommodate up to three pans. Simply move to the outer edge of the hotplate to reduce the temperature from a rolling boil to a steady simmer.

The right-hand side of the ESSE Hybrid is all electric, comprising two cooking ovens, a full-width grill and a generous hotplate delivering fingertip control.

Both the ovens feature the company’s patented 3kW wraparound elements, which guarantee uniform temperatures and faster heat-up times. The top oven benefits from a 3kW wall-to-wall grill.

The appliance requires one 13 Amp plug socket and a six-inch flue. The external control panel can be wall-mounted or freestanding.

Consumers can find off-grid recipes, cooking tips and videos featuring chefs such as Tim Maddams and Gill Meller from River Cottage that make the most of the ESSE Hybrid’s cooking abilities at www.esse.com.
