Fridge hiker supported for another year
Hotpoint is supporting ‘The Fridge Hiker’ Matthew Bamber in continuing his mission to raise awareness and money for Help for Heroes – the UK Armed Forces and military veterans’ charity – into 2019.
Bamber began his mission in 2016 and has since covered 75 miles with a 29kg under-counter fridge, donated by Hotpoint, strapped to his back, raising in excess of £9,000 in the process.
“Without Hotpoint, the idea could not have happened,” he commented. “Rucksacks can conceal weight, with those passing you by not understanding the true weight on your shoulders. When they see the fridge, they get it.”
Members of the Armed Forces carry over 30kg in their packs during service, covering vast distances through difficult terrains.
Bamber’s idea is similar to that of Tony the Fridge, who some years ago ran marathons while carrying a 42kg Smeg FAB 10 fridge on his back in aid of charity.
To date, Bamber and the Hotpoint fridge have completed a total of 12 treks under “challenging” weather and physical conditions.
“I am thrilled to continue the journey in 2019,” the hiker said.
