GDHA commits to metal-backed cooling ahead of regulation change

Glen Dimplex Home Appliances (GDHA) has announced that production of its plastic-backed refrigeration products will cease this month, in preparation for regulation changes due to come in 1st January 2019 which will require the backing on fridges, freezers and fridge freezers to meet a higher level of flame retardancy.

The company has committed to the use of metal backing on all cooling products in its Lec, Stoves and Britannia ranges.

Stuart Netscher, Head of Category for Cooling at GDHA, said: “We are aware that recent media reports linked to plastic backed fridges have caused concern amongst consumers and we want our customers to feel 100% confident in our brands.

“The majority of our products already have metal backings. This change ensures we will have metal backing on 100% of our refrigeration range of products ahead of 1st January 2019.”
