hmv opens Europe’s biggest retail entertainment space
Entertainment retailer hmv has marked the next step in the brand’s revival with a multi-million pound investment in the British high street, nine months after being bought out of administration.
The 25,000 sq ft hmv Vault, opening tomorrow (11th October) in Birmingham, is said to be the largest music and entertainment retail space in Europe. The store will range more than 100,000 LPs and CDs and offer every film available on 4K UHD (20,000 Blu-ray and over 40,000 DVD titles).
hmv Owner Doug Putman stated that the opening of the store is a vote of confidence in the British high street and that hmv will play a fundamental role in ensuring shopping districts continue to thrive.
Alongside music, film, books and fashion merchandise, the Vault will offer a specially designed performance space, inviting both local artists and international musicians to perform in-store. The outlet’s Friday launch will see a performance by Liam Payne, with chart topper James Arthur performing on Saturday. The Murder Capital and local bands will also perform during the opening weekend.
hmv owner Doug Putman, owner of hmv said: “I am a firm believer in the potential for British high street retail and hmv will play a fundamental role in ensuring that our shopping districts continue to thrive.
“Retail offers two things a purely digital experience of
music simply can’t – the opportunity to experience the biggest acts live in our
stores and our ability to offer a platform to new artists in the
communities where we operate, as well as opportunities for fans to come together and share their passion for music and film with our dedicated staff.
“The hmv Vault has been built with the needs of the modern music and film fan at its heart with a permanent live performance space and an unparalleled range catering to the full breadth of our customers’ tastes.”
