Hoover launches NFC-enabled washing machines

Hoover has announced the launch of a new generation of One Touch washing machines incorporating Near Field Communication technology.

The technology enables communication between the One Touch app and the appliance via wireless data transfer. With no internet connection or complicated installation required, set up is quick and easy. After the user has downloaded the app, they simply tap their smartphone on the machine to connect.

The One Touch app is available on compatible NFC-enabled devices running Android 4.4. The appliances can also be operated manually.

“Moving forwards, all of our new washing machines will feature One Touch technology, which will make doing the laundry simpler than ever before,” said Steve Macdonald, marketing director at Hoover’s freestanding division.

“As well as being able to operate the appliance via a phone within close proximity to the machine, users will also be able to monitor energy consumption, keep an eye on programme running times, save the most frequently used cycles and have instant access to the instruction manual.”

One Touch washing machines are also equipped with a ‘health check’ feature that monitors their performance and advises if any components require cleaning or attention.

Other benefits include a voice assist feature which can recommend the best wash programme based on the laundry load, and a wide choice of additional wash cycles for download.

“As technology advances, the way consumers are managing their homes is changing and as a manufacturer we are investing to make sure that our appliances meet these demands,” said Macdonald.

“We expect that demand for smart kitchen appliances will only continue to grow over the next few years, so it is up to manufacturers and retailers to ensure they have the right products and expertise available.”

These latest machines expand Hoover’s existing portfolio of connected kitchen products. In 2015, the brand launched the Wi-Fi enabled Wizard family of appliances.

“Hoover is setting the standard for smart appliances that deliver true benefits to the end consumer,” Macdonald commented.

All of Hoover’s new freestanding washing machines will feature One Touch technology, and a number of existing models will be upgraded with it from September onwards.
