McIntosh announces new “all-in-one” wireless loudspeaker system

US home entertainment & audio company McIntosh has launched the RS200 Wireless Loudspeaker System, “a next-generation all-in-one wireless speaker system, designed and built for the streaming age.”

The RS200’s wide-ranging technologies include Apple® AirPlay® 2 and Bluetooth® 5.0, plus Amazon Works With Alexa certification; simply by speaking to a third-party Alexa control device, the unit can be operated in any room.

The unit incorporates streaming support for AAC, Qualcomm® aptX™ HD for hi-res playback and Qualcomm aptX Low Latency (for improved audio transmission speed to deliver sound in sync with visual media) and DNLA support. It also offers Play-Fi from DTS, which has built-in interfaces for Amazon Prime Music, Pandora®, Qobuz, SiriusXM®, Spotify®, TIDAL and more.

The RS200 offers 650 watts delivered to eight drivers split between two bass drivers, four midrange units and two tweeters. In addition, a subwoofer output is included to connect an optional powered subwoofer. In order to integrate the RS200 into a variety of rooms and homes around the globe, a three-position EQ switch allows the EQ to be set based on the specific room and the user’s listening preferences.

The RS200 can also improve movie, box set and TV sound quality, benefitting from an audio-only HDMI input for TVs with ARC (Audio Return Channel) capabilities, plus an optical input to connect TVs without ARC. For enveloping home theatre audio, McIntosh’s Play-Fi-compatible RS100 Wireless Speakers (sold separately) can be added as surround channels.

The RS 200 is available to order now for delivery in the UK in March/April, at a RRP of £3,495.
