Samsung opens the “most connected home in Britain”

Samsung Electronics has announced the official opening of its first UK connected living show home, which is located in a new residential development at Wembley Park.

The Connected Living Apartment, described as “the most connected home in Britain”, is a live showcase of the brand’s latest connected home technology in a real-life setting.

The company, whose goal it is to ensure all of its products will be connected to the Internet of Things by 2020, said: “This state-of-the-art connected home brings the business one step closer to showing its partners how secure seamless and convenient connected living is for consumers, both inside and outside of the home.”

Samsung added that it is “forging ahead to help consumers feel more secure as well as save time and money”, from automating daily routines to enabling connections between household appliances.

At the heart of the Connected Living Apartment is Samsung’s open ecosystem powered by the SmartThings app, which is compatible with the majority of the UK’s leading IoT brands such as Ikea, Yale, Ring, Bose, Arlo and Philips Hue.

The SmartThings app simplifies interoperability between devices by centralising control through one simple mobile interface available on Android or iOS, eliminating the need to use multiple apps from different vendors.

SmartThings is secured by Samsung Knox, which boasts enterprise grade security, protecting personal data travelling between the home and the Cloud.  It allows people to take control of their homes and the devices within them wherever and whenever it suits them – be that controlling locks and switching off hair straighteners or having the ability to schedule and control kitchen appliances and view the contents of a fridge.

Teg Dosanjh, Director of Connected Living, Samsung Electronics UK and Ireland, commented: “Many of us have already had a glimpse into the potential of a connected home through devices like smart speakers, but we want to take this to a whole new level of smart.

“This genuine residential setting is a perfect place to showcase the best of Samsung and third-party brands coming together to highlight what is already possible today, as well as our future vision. This initiative chimes with our higher purpose of building communities which are enriched through technology-powered experiences.

“Everything on show in the Samsung Connected Living Apartment is technology and functionality that is available today, not in a decade’s time. It’s why we’ve launched our showcase in a real-life residential setting.”

The apartment will be open to Samsung partners and press by invite only at first, but will open to a wider audience after the initial launch.
