Sharp introduces WiFi-enabled kitchen appliances

Sharp has introduced a series of WiFi-enabled appliances comprising an oven, fridge freezer, dishwasher and washing machine, offering the usual lifestyle benefits associated with WiFi-enabled kitchen appliances and ensuring a faster, more customer-centric after-sales service due to remote diagnostics. To use the service, consumers need to download the app provided by Sharp and register their contact details and the serial numbers of products.

The fridge freezer, dishwasher and washing machine provide day-to-day support, such as notifying users if their appliance doors have been left open, and are capable of adapting their responses according to the seriousness of an appliance problem. For issues such as dishwasher leaks and disconnected washing machine pumps, the products send out pop-up alerts to highlight the problem and prompt user action, only notifying customer service personnel if the same issues are ever detected again.

The oven also offers user-friendly prompts, sending out notifcations when, for example, a pre-set cooking time comes to an end.

Sharp said it will future-proof and continuously advance its product designs using smart capabilities to monitor the real-life performance of its WiFi-enabled range.

“With the launch of this series we believe that we can realise the true sales potential of smart home appliances,“ commented Sharp‘s European Sales and Marketing Director Alberico Lissoni.

“Bringing mainstream appeal to an otherwise niche and luxury market, we can offer so much more than remotely accessible features. Key to a new standard in product ownership experience, our connected appliances promise to unlock a whole world of unprecedented customer service, delivering unflagging support throughout every stage of the product’s life.”
